Sri Sri Swamiji: If you maintain your body healthy, that is strengthening the body (‘Sarira Balam’)
If you keep the ‘Prana’ (breath) under control, then that is strengthening the breath(‘Prana Balam’)
If you control the mind and tune it in the proper direction, then that is strengthening the intellect.
If you keep your mind thoughtless and positive, and keep it one-pointed, that is strengthening the mind (‘Mano Balam’)
By merely having ‘Mano Balam’, it is possible to perform superhuman tasks like bending an iron rod, or extracting the juice from a fruit without touching it and so on. But these are occult practices.
The soul (aatma) is beyond the mind (manas). The power of the true Jnanis is Atma Balam, and that is the real strength.
Chanting the Mahamantra increases the ‘Aatma Balam’.

நவ- ஒன்பது, ராத்திரி- இரவுநேரம். ஒன்பது இரவு என்பதே இதன் பொருள். அதாவது இராமாயணத்தில் இராமனுக்கும் இராவணனுக்கும் யுத்தம் ஒன்பது நாட்கள் நடந்தது.
பத்தாம் நாள் காலையில் ராமர் ராவணனை சம்ஹாரம் செய்தார். வால்மிகி முனிவர் கூறுகின்றார்:
ககனம் ககனாகாரம் சகராஸ் சாகரோபம: ராம ராவனயோர் யுத்தம் ராம ராவணயோரிவ என்று.
ககனம் என்றால் வானம், ஆகாயம் என்று பொருள். சாகரம் என்றால் கடல்.
வானத்திற்கும் கடலுக்கும் எடுத்துக்காட்டு கூற இயலாது. ஒருக்கால் அவைகளுக்குகூட கூறிவிடலாம் ஆனால், ஒரு போரை எடுத்துக்கொண்டு அப்போரைப் போல் ராம ராவண யுத்தம் இருந்தது என்று கூற முடியாது. ராம ராவண யுத்தத்திற்கு எடுத்துக்காட்டு உவமை எதுவும் கூற இயலாது. ஏனெனில் போர் சக்கரவர்த்தி திருமகனாகிய ராமருக்கும் சாம வேதத்தில் சிறந்து விளங்கக்கூடிய, சிறந்த சிவ பக்தனான ராவணனுக்கும் இடையே நடக்ககூடியது. எனவே இப்போருக்கு உவமை இல்லை என வால்மிகி முனிவர் தெரிவிக்கின்றார். பத்தாம் நாள் ராவண சம்ஹாரம் நடந்த அன்று தசமி நாள். அத்தினத்தில் ராமன் வெற்றி பெற்றதால் அன்று நாம் விஜயதசமி என்று கொண்டாடுகின்றோம். இதனையே தென்இந்தியாவில் நவராத்திரி என்று கொலு பொம்மைகள் வைத்து கொண்டாடுகின்றோம். வடஇந்தியாவில் பத்தாம் நாள் காலையையும் சேர்த்து தசரா என்கின்றனர். மற்ற படி நவராத்திரி என்பது மற்ற இஷ்ட தெய்வங்களாகிய அம்மன், காளி ஆகியவர்களுக்கு என்பார் சிலர். கொலு கொண்டாடுவது ராமனின் வெற்றிக்காக மட்டுமே! -கிருஷ்ணப்ரியா-

In the Sundara Kandam in Srimad Valmiki Ramayana, Hanuman narrates the Ramayana from the beginning up to that point of time, to Sita Devi who is held captive by Ravana. Following this, Thrijada describes a dream where she says that she witnesses Sri Rama Pattabhishekam. Therefore, effectively, the entire Ramayana is covered in this one Kandam and that is the reason Thy doing parayana of the Sundara Kandam alone is considered equivalent to reading the whole text.
In Ramayana, at the time of meeting Lord Sri Rama, Sugreeva has lost everything- kingdom, wife, honour. but later he regains them all. Ravana, on the other hand, has everything in the beginning. but in the end, he loses everything one by one and is finally destroyed too. The reason is simple. Though he was down in the doldrums, Sugreeva held on to the company of the true Sadhu named Hanuman, whereas though he had it all, Ravana set Hanuman's tail on fire thus earning the wrath of God. such is the greatness of Sadhus and their divine company.
One need not accept Lord Rama as God. But if we take a close look at Ramayana, the ideal king and father is portrayed by Dasaratha, the ideal siblings by Lakshmana, Bharata and Shatrugna, the ideal wife by Sitadevi, the ideal dasa by Hanuman, the ideal friend by Guha and even, the ideal enemy by Ravana. Can anyone deny the glaring fact that Ramayana portrays an ideal society? To the eyes of some even if Ramayana is a myth, the fact that somebody imagined a flying object called "Pushpak vimana" in Ramayana thousands of years ago, is undeniably baffling Soorpanaka wanted Sri Rama alone. she was destroyed. RAvana wanted Sitadevi alone and he too met his end. Hanumanji wished to have darshan of Sita-Rama and therefore He remains as a chiranjeevi to this day. through this, Ramayana indicates this very deep truth that one should always worship the Lord along with his divine consort (as "Yugalam" )

* Life consists of duals such as joy and sorrow, righteousness and unrighteousness, merit and sin, good and evil, etc. * The 'Tăraka Mantra' leads one to a state beyond this dual state. Why do we get sufferings in life? Why can’t God create a world that has no sufferings, or better not perform Creation at all, at the first place?
Sri Sri Swamiji:
Let us assume that someone comes to me and I tell him that I am his saviour and that it is me who has been protecting him so long. He immediately would ask me for explanation. I go to say that as per his karma, he should have died at this point of time or some accident should have befallen, but I have nullified his bad karma and protected him.
Even if this were true, the person would laugh at me and call me a bluff. But, if he encounters a dangerous situation and comes out of it without any problems, it is then that he would realize the truth.
It is easy to question after an event has happened, but our mind does not realize the invisible protection that keeps away harm. That is quite the nature of the mind.
So, if there is no suffering, we don’t realize the protection. That is why we get sufferings.

Man has been blessed with a tongue and a Nãma (the Name of the Lord). Then there is no place for fear. You can chant this Nãma while bathing, while eating, while walking, while running, while waiting at the bus stop, while traveling, while lying down, while at work. You can utter this Maha Mantra even while wearing footwear. Just like a streak of sunlight dispels the darkness of a hundred years, an utterance of the Divine Name can dissolve the sins accumulated over crores of births (Janmas). Now then, let’s see what could be done to put the mind in order.
The human mind is always oscillating. The nature of the human mind is to project a desire and chase that desire, let us for simplicity call it 'A'. 'A' is what the mind wanted. As soon as it catches 'A', it ends up dropping it. Now again the mind is wandering and is instantly directed at something else (Economics supports this argument by telling us that human wants are unlimited).So now it focuses on something else, lets call it 'B'. Now it wants 'B' and it catches B'. Similarly as in the earlier case, after getting hold of it, it drops it. We can assume ‘A’ and ‘B’ as anything we want and yet we’d end up with the same result. Let’s assume ‘A’ as employment. A job-seeker has all his life only applied for jobs without getting any of them. His only prayer to god would be to get a job. That is his only want. And then finally, god blesses him and he gets employed, though for a meager salary (The mind has now caught ‘A’). Now, the meager salary causes dissatisfaction to him. He wants a higher-paying job in the same company which calls for a promotion. Let’s assume ‘B’ as a high-paying job. The same chap now stops appreciating his present job and wants to get promoted for want of more money(The mind has dropped ‘A’ and is chasing ‘B’).He again prays to god and god blesses him promotion and he gets promoted.
Do you think he’d be happy and content with the promotion? All those who have answered NO are NO different from this person, the reason being very simple and straightforward. The first line of this paragraph is the reason for saying NO. It is rather unfortunate that we do not even enjoy that we wanted for a long time (The job as in the example). Before we cherish what we have won, we start looking for something else or something more in most cases(Higher-paying job in the example). Stay tuned for more.

Question: My family members chant the Mahamantra regularly. This has not changed their behaviour or attitude. They seem to be finding fault with others and hurt others with their words or behavior. How will God grace remain with such people who knowingly hurt or insult others? If people do mistakes even after realizing that Satsang, Guru and Mahamantra can reach one to God, will Mahamantra help them? I am the victim of their behavior. I have totally lost my peace of mind due to this. I need your advice to come out of such frequent but difficult phases in my life. Sri Sri Swamiji's Response: Let us assume that a person wishes to undertake a pilgrimage from Kanyakumari to Badrinath. He can take to any mode of travel in order to undertake his journey. Each mode has its own merits and demerits. Even if he chooses the best means of travel, would he reach Badrinath the moment he decides on his pilgrimage? No, isn't it? It takes its own time and depends on a multitude of factors like the person's interest, the effort he puts in, the environment and nature, and so many others. Likewise, if someone wishes to attain God, he seeks a Guru and also chants. But it is unfair to expect to reach the goal immediately. At the same time, you cannot brand him as lacking progress entirely. Hriday, who was very close to Sri Ramakrishna gave him a lot of troubles. Sri Girish Chandra Ghosh who was loved by Sri Ramakrishna never stopped drinking and womanizing until his last breath. Perumal Swami, who was one of the earliest devotees of Bhagavan Ramana and took such a good care of him later went against Bhagavan Ramana himself and wrote books tarnishing Bhagavan's Name. In fact, even Jagadguru Sri Dakshinamurthi has only four disciples. True saints never try to hypnotize, mesmerize, brainwash or perform miracles and magic to change people; nor they change their disciples by mere command unlike in a military regiment. True transformation largely depends on one's sincere dedication and interest to get transformed. A flower has to blossom by itself. One cannot threaten it with a stick, can one? Everything will happen in its own course. So let us wait patiently. Until such a time, never allow any one or any event spoil your internal peace and happiness. Don't interact with or react to anything. Watch it as a third person. Chant the Mahamantra and see everything as the Leela of the Lord. ans: Sri Sri Swamiji: The remembrance of the Lord at the time of the death is neither due to past karma nor due to the spiritual endeavors during this life. It is only due to the grace of the Guru or God. *Is temptation natural for every human? How can I avoid this? Is there an easy way out? Sri Sri Swamiji: Temptation is natural, not only for humans, but also for all creatures on Earth. Instead of trying to avoid it, you can overcome it. The only way out is to chant, chant and chant. A Homonym for His Compassion?
Sanskrit is a ‘Deva Bhasha’ (Divine Language of God). There are two beautiful words in this language which have almost identical pronunciations but with two different meanings.
CharaNam – चरणम् (Meaning: Foot) SharaNam – शरणम् (Meaning: Surrender) The sea of compassion that He is, God has given identical pronunciations to these pair of words so that He could find an excuse to take unto His Feet and liberate even the one who mispronounces the word ‘CharaNam’ as ‘SharaNam’. We are advised to avoid onion and garlic in our diet. Why? Some explain that they trigger lustful tendencies; hence, we should avoid them in our diet. But what is the real reason behind this?
During the ‘amruta matanam’ [churning the Divine Ocean of Milk (’Ksheeraabdi’) for acquiring ‘amrut’] Lord Vishnu took the form of a beautiful maiden to obtain the ‘amrut’ for the Devas from the hands of the Asuras who had snatched away the pot containing the ‘amrut’. Taking even a small drop of ‘Amrut’, the tastiest of all things in all worlds, one faces no death, has no fear of disease, no hunger or sleep and always remains fresh and active. Mohini holding the pot of ‘amrut’ in her hand asked the Devas and the Asuras to sit in a row facing each other so that she could distribute the ‘amrut’ to them. The Asuras dumbstruck by Mohini’s beauty sat gaping at her and failed to notice her action. She was serving the ‘amrut’ only to the Devas. However, Rahu, one of the Asuras, noticed it and surreptitiously moved to the row of the Devas and sat between the Sun and the Moon gods and received the ‘amrut’. The Sun and the Moon noticed him and quietly warned the Lord who was in the form of Mohini. The Lord hit Rahu on the head with the laddle and ordered him to spit out the ‘amrut’. He spat out the ‘amrut’ and that fell out as onion and garlic. Since they have come out of the ‘amrut’ they are good for health but since they have come out of an Asura’s [demon] mouth they contain demonic elements in them. Our Puranas detail how a ‘jiva’ takes birth on earth. The ‘jivas’ remain as tiny atoms in space. At the appropriate time, they enter the rain clouds, fall down as rain and enter the ‘Oshadiis’ [food grains] on earth. They enter the male as ‘retas’ [sperm] through the food he consumes and then is transferred to the womb of the mother where it begins to take form. The demonic qualities are present in onion and garlic. Thus, one who consumes onion and garlic begets children with demonic qualities. answer : As long as the life-force (‘Prana’) is inside your body, you are said to be alive. The moment that the Prana leaves your body to take another body is called death. The death of the body is not the real death. Even in medical science, it has been proved that real death is not the death of the body, but the death of the mind. From a spirituality perspective, real death is when you realize God, or realize the Self within you. That is because, it is only after then that you are not born anymore.
