    Q & A

Questions answered by SRI SRI MURALIDHARA SWAMIJI !!!
(Compiled by: Rekha!! Love to be with GOD)

*Does the remembrance of the Lord at the time of death depend on our past karma or because of spiritual endeavors during this life?

    ans: Sri Sri Swamiji:
The remembrance of the Lord at the time of the death is neither due to past karma nor due to the spiritual endeavors during this life. It is only due to the grace of the Guru or God.

*Is temptation natural for every human? How can I avoid this? Is there an easy way out?

    Sri Sri Swamiji:

Temptation is natural, not only for humans, but also for all creatures on Earth. Instead of trying to avoid it, you can overcome it. The only way out is to chant, chant and chant. But you have to be patient. Don’t expect immediate results. But the results are guaranteed. The transformation will happen slowly.

    A Homonym for His Compassion?

Sanskrit is a ‘Deva Bhasha’ (Divine Language of God). There are two beautiful words in this language which have almost identical pronunciations but with two different meanings.
    CharaNam – चरणम् (Meaning: Foot)
    SharaNam – शरणम् (Meaning: Surrender)

The sea of compassion that He is, God has given identical pronunciations to these pair of words so that He could find an excuse to take unto His Feet and liberate even the one who mispronounces the word ‘CharaNam’ as ‘SharaNam’.

    How compassionate is our God!

    1. The idol to be installed in the temple is being
stamped upon when it is sculptured. We are careless
towards the idol in many ways. But after it is
consecrated, we give due respect to the same idol.
    Isn?t this funny?

    Sri Sri Muralidhara Swamiji:

When multistoried buildings are built and different
kinds of electrical appliances are connected, the
electric cables used for them lie scattered. We stamp
on these cables and touch them with our hands. Until
when? Until the power supply is given. After that we
are very careful with these cables. Why so? Likewise,
until yesterday it was a statue made of stone. Today
when the 'Kumb㢨ishekam' (consecration ceremony) is
done, divinity is instilled into the idol through
mantras. That is why we give due respect and worship
    the deity.

    2. We can feel electric current by touch. That is, we
come to know that there is electricity in the wires
through electric bulbs and fans. But how will we know
    that there is divinity?

    Sri Sri Swamiji:

There are so many devotees whose prayers are answered.
    That is the proof.

    3. Can divinity be felt by touch?

    Sri Sri Swamiji:

In our daily life we tend to tell some people, ?Your
deed has touched my heart?, ?Your speech touched my
heart". Likewise, divinity should also be touched and
    felt in the heart.

    4. How will bhakti come if we pray with the picture of
    God? Isn?t it mere paper?

    Sri Sri Swamiji:

Your young son has a paper with a vulgar picture in
it. What would you do ?

    Devotee:I would throw it away.

    Sri Sri Swamiji:

    Why?

    Devotee:It would spoil his mind.

    Sri Sri Swamiji:

    Isn?t it mere paper?

Devotee:Now I have the answer to my question. I have
    realized my mistake.

    Onion & Garlic

     Onion & Garlic

We are advised to avoid onion and garlic in our diet. Why? Some explain that they trigger lustful tendencies; hence, we should avoid them in our diet. But what is the real reason behind this?

During the ‘amruta matanam’ [churning the Divine Ocean of Milk (’Ksheeraabdi’) for acquiring ‘amrut’] Lord Vishnu took the form of a beautiful maiden to obtain the ‘amrut’ for the Devas from the hands of the Asuras who had snatched away the pot containing the ‘amrut’. Taking even a small drop of ‘Amrut’, the tastiest of all things in all worlds, one faces no death, has no fear of disease, no hunger or sleep and always remains fresh and active.

Mohini holding the pot of ‘amrut’ in her hand asked the Devas and the Asuras to sit in a row facing each other so that she could distribute the ‘amrut’ to them. The Asuras dumbstruck by Mohini’s beauty sat gaping at her and failed to notice her action. She was serving the ‘amrut’ only to the Devas. However, Rahu, one of the Asuras, noticed it and surreptitiously moved to the row of the Devas and sat between the Sun and the Moon gods and received the ‘amrut’. The Sun and the Moon noticed him and quietly warned the Lord who was in the form of Mohini. The Lord hit Rahu on the head with the laddle and ordered him to spit out the ‘amrut’. He spat out the ‘amrut’ and that fell out as onion and garlic.

Since they have come out of the ‘amrut’ they are good for health but since they have come out of an Asura’s [demon] mouth they contain demonic elements in them.

Our Puranas detail how a ‘jiva’ takes birth on earth. The ‘jivas’ remain as tiny atoms in space. At the appropriate time, they enter the rain clouds, fall down as rain and enter the ‘Oshadiis’ [food grains] on earth. They enter the male as ‘retas’ [sperm] through the food he consumes and then is transferred to the womb of the mother where it begins to take form. The demonic qualities are present in onion and garlic. Thus, one who consumes onion and garlic begets children with demonic qualities. It is for this reason that on

    Q & A

    Q & A

    (Compiled by Sri Rekha)

I want to know about my death. What is death? I want to experience my death. I want to be aware of my death.?

    answer :

As long as the life-force (‘Prana’) is inside your body, you are said to be alive. The moment that the Prana leaves your body to take another body is called death.

The death of the body is not the real death. Even in medical science, it has been proved that real death is not the death of the body, but the death of the mind.

From a spirituality perspective, real death is when you realize God, or realize the Self within you. That is because, it is only after then that you are not born anymore. Hence that is the real death.

    Question:

I get irritated by my boss questioning and the tone in which it is done. This upsets me and negativity rises. How should I handle this and

    remain peaceful?

    Sri Sri Swamiji:

Once the Buddha went to a house begging for alms. The house owner not only refuses alms but also abuses him verbally. The Buddha stood calm listening to all of it. The house owner was puzzled at the Buddha's indifference and asked him how he could remain without the least reaction. The Buddha replied, 'If you wish to donate me a cow, and I refuse, whom does the cow belong to? Does it not belong to you? Your abuses are no different!'
Your boss may be showing his work pressures as irritation on you. So do not get hurt by them and try to remain calm.

    FAITH
Faith is the foundation of everything in this world.
The alphabet 'F' in the word 'LIFE' stands for Faith in the Creator. In the absence of faith, your life is but a lie!
